You sound stupid

Synopsis

A psychic medium attempts to uncover the truth behind her sister’s murder at the scene of the crime. Oddity as a whole was made up of elements that Mc Carthy “cherry-picked from horror tropes.” The Wooden Man was inspired by the Jewish folklore of the golem, a large clay figure that can come to life through rituals to do its creator’s bidding. While there are one or two sudden scares, the scares mostly consist of atmospheres and situations that would easily scare anyone in a similar setting.

It’s seen, not described

That’s the proper way to do horror, with the idea of something inspiring fear rather than cheap reaction scares that are only effective because of loud noises. It even starts with an impossible decision that effortlessly draws you in. Plus, there’s always something to focus on that consistently grabs the audience. It’s shown, not immediately explained. This results in mystery and guesswork that will keep you interested throughout the entire movie.

I only have two complaints

Overall, an entertaining movie, and the acting skill displayed by the entire cast is competent and adequate. The first is that some characters’ motivation is basically absurd. You could argue that these people are essentially psychopaths, but still their choices are too extreme to be believable. Absolutely ridiculous. The second is the final scene.
